So…what is it all used for now?
Hum.. let me think… The Expos are gone. The Al’s use Molson Stadium. The car show is at Place Bonaventure… I remember reading they had enough events to make it profitable but to be honest I’ve had no reason to go there for years.
What are the Al’s? And why don’t they put the stadium on top of the tower? I’d come see it that way!
The "Al’s" are the Alouette’s – our football team in the CFL. Good suggestion for a roof venue & tourist attraction
This stadium was so hastely built that I hesitate going inside it. Part of it fell off (A huge multi ton chunk in fact) once a few years ago. When you go up the fenicular on the spine of the tower you see how badly the concrete was poured although the view from the top is pretty decent… All in all I’d rather stay away from it just in case the whole thing collapses one day.
LOL. Good one!
That is one awesome shot of the Big O!!
Thanks, I kinda like this one myself… nicer in summer when there’s a lot of greenery but still cool to see.. somehow welcoming me home.
Great shot. I stumbled onto your photos being homesick for Montreal. Grew up in the east end and spent a lot of time at Expos games instead of in class lol. Some good concerts too.. Pink Floyd stands out. Thanks for the photos, makes me want to move back to the best city in the world!
Catriona67 – Thanks for your nice comments – where abouts in the east end did you used to live? I kinda miss the Expos.. not that I (or anyone for that matter) really spent a lot of time thinking about them (or actually going to games) in the later years… but it was nice to have them around in summer… kinda gave the city a summery feel. However stay in Vancouver! That’s an incredible city with hardly any snow!! Sure Montreal has a lot of great things but the whole idea of living somewhere where there’s no snow would be paradise for me!… Vancouver would be way up there on my list of choices.. one of the prettiest cities in North America in my opinion.
Caribb, yes Vancouver is pretty. I moved out here almost 2 years ago and I bring my camera with me everywhere I go now there is so much scenery here it’s hard to take a bad photo… but it just lack that vibe that Montreal has, and I miss the food! I grew up in the Anjou/Tetereauville area. Went to high school in Rosemount. I went to the second to last Expos game, went to see them as often as I could, was sad to see them go. I’m hoping to get back there for Christmas this year, maybe I’ll luck out and get some good shots from the plane. Oh and I always thought the Big Owe looked like a toilet, kind of appropriate since that’s where our money went…
I grew up in the same area… I agree Montreal does go by the beat of it’s own drum… and it’s not a North American drum.. more European if anything but even that’s changing over time as more Latin and Arabic influences make inroads in our foods and way of life. The Expos.. well, there came a point when people were just saying stick a fork in them and take them off the BBQ… they’re done.. over done actually.. no one realy misses baseball here, they insulted our intelligence and left with few people really caring. They had long lost their connection to the fans years before the owners isolated them from the city. LOL on the Big Toilet . I’m convinced that place will eventually fall down. It may look great but I saw it being built, been up the spine and seen the poor construction, am fully aware of the O-Ring around the top that doesn’t even come close to fitting together and remember very well the multi ton chunk that fell off onto the plaza one day at 5am.. For all the good things in this city this is not one of them… but the food and the pulse of the city does match if not beat most cities in North America and that’s good enough for me to stick around and soak it up
Hi, I’m an admin for a group called Olympic Central, and we’d love to have your photo added to the group.
AWESOME perspective of in my opinion the most beautiful city there is!
I, as a tourist saw a few Expos games (was dragged there but did enjoy it!) and went up the tower. I thought it afforded fabulous views of the city!
I can’t believe that it is finally paid for!!!
Fispace – Thanks & done
I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. I mildly kinda maybe miss the Expos… well, not really but then no one was sad to see them go. Basebal is out of sight and out of mind in this city now. It’s the NBL’s loss. The view from the tower is nice though especially in autumn when the mountain is full of colour. I can’t believe it’s actually paid for too… and for some reason I suspect I’m still contributing to it LOL..
wepokers – Thanks very much!
ucumari – Thanks and thanks for all the favs! "the most beautiful city there is".. LOL
Magnifique prise!
Mon nouveau quartier…
–BL– – Merci!
